Who is Cyrus Janssen?

My name is Cyrus Janssen. I’m an international business consultant, entrepreneur, and speaker. I’ve been living abroad since 2007 and have been fortunate to call the cities of Shanghai, Hong Kong, and now Vancouver my home the past 15 years. So I guess you came to this page to get a little more background on who I am right? Here you go…

My Story

I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. From an early age, I had an interest in international travel, and foreign languages. My mother is from Germany, and I was blessed as a child and teenager to make several trips to her homeland, which opened my eyes to living abroad. After graduating from Florida State University in December 2006, I moved to Shanghai, China to pursue a career as a golf professional. Two years later, I was given the opportunity to serve as the Head Golf Professional for Sheshan International Golf Club, China’s first premier private club. In 2014, I moved to Hong Kong to become the General Manager of i3 Sports. In 2017, I relocated to Vancouver, Canada and founded APP Marketing Solutions, a marketing and consulting firm who advises clients between North America and Asia.

I first traveled to China in 2007 to begin my post-graduate career. I signed a two year work contract and eventually stayed for 10 years. Throughout my time in China I immersed myself with local people, language, customs, and food and have gained a deep appreciation for China.  Many Western countries fear China, but I’ve found the biggest reason for their fear is a lack of knowledge or experience. Once you go to China, you will gain an entirely new perspective. My mission is to build bridges between countries, most specifically the United States and China. I firmly believe if these two great superpowers learn to work together, it would pay dividends for the entire world.  We live in a global economy and need partnerships that help all citizens around the world live a better life.  I started my career as a golf professional in China and transitioned to become an executive of one of Hong Kong’s most successful sports marketing companies. Today I consult businesses in both North America and China on market entry, advanced marketing practices, and social media strategies. I started my professional career in the golf industry and remain an active member of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of America. Golf is my favourite hobby but nothing replaces the time I get to spend with my wife and 3 children.  As a keynote speaker, I’ve given speeches on: Understanding China, Chinese History, Chinese Language,  Chinese Digital Payments, Cross Culture Business Practices, Marketing, and the most effective Social Media Strategies Your most important skill will be to keep an open mind. Things are done differently in China, that’s ok. Learn to adapt. Change your way of thinking to be more proactive. Instead of saying “I want to learn Chinese,” proactively say “I’m learning Chinese”. This mental shift will help you be more proactive in life.
